I gave it a 3 star rating. Bought it in Dec of 2016 as a Christmas gift for Grandsons. It was not used until 8/12/17. It went up perfectly and it surpassed my expectations. The next day when taking it down I found one of the fiberglass cross supports was shattered. Still trying to get the fiberglass out of my hand.
The tent is fairly easy to set up and was standing in only 15 minutes. Its spacious and tall enough for me to stand in. The lack of a closure to the back window is a bit odd. It rained fairly heavy one evening. My tent was dry even with the inside windows open. The front screen porch area is going to get wet in rain. As long as youre prepared for that, the tent will work great.
Love everything about this tent so far. Bought it to do a 1000 mile move with a horse, cat, and rabbit alone in midsummer heat from Norcal to Eastern WA. Broke my foot the first day of the move so was very compromised and yet was still able to set this up in no time flat, alone. The screen room gave the bunny somewhere to be and the main cabin for the kitty. Worked until kitty decided to swing from the ceiling at 2am. Back in the dog kennel. Four stars because out of the four times I have used it, I have only gotten it back in the bag once.
Great tent, easy to put up and very competitively priced however; the screen room allows the entire area to flood... design mistake! I know that they say that they want the sun to be able to come in but at what cost ? dirt in the room turns to mud. small price to pay to have a tent that cheap and that good of quality.
continues to impress me with their affordable outdoor equipment. Theres always a fine line between cost/reliability with products, and when youre in the wilderness you dont want to be left out in the cold. Ive come to depend on products for this reason.
Prior to this, I camped with my Sundown tent, which I swore by for the simple fact that it could be set up and torn down in five minutes. My dog and I fit fine, but if he was wet and it was raining, forget it. Mess everywhere. Now I camp with my gf and my dog and it came tike to expand. Enter the Evanston. We just came back from Lake George camping, where it endured several random torrential downpours and lots of in and out.
A good rule of thumb when buying a tent is to look at the number of people it says its for, and subtract by 2. I chose this one simply for the porch feature, which Ill expand on below.
Set up:
As easy as any tent, really. Do yourself a favor and mark with colored tape the tent poles so at a glance youll know which ones are which next time you set up. It can be set up by one person if necessary, but two people is optimal for ease of use.
Cleanup/ Tear Down:
Because of the ridge pole holding the porch section, its a little trickier. Use a towel or shirt to brush away the debris that inevitably tracks in.
Durability:
8/10.
No rips or tears, no cracked zipper components. A little bit of moistness seeped into the corners from the rain, however. We did not use sealant, which I suspect would have prevented this entirely.
Space:
10/10 for two people and a dog, 6/10 for four people and two dogs!
A couple of our friends arrived late and opted to set up their tent in the morning, so we hosted them in ours. It was a bit tight, but definitely doable. Points subtracted here because the main tent door placement required some seriously precarious stepping over each other to get to. Not a great situation for those 3am find a tree moments. But the dogs were happy, and everyone had their own roll around area.
The Porch:
6/10.
The usefulness here was two fold. It served to keep some items away from the elements and to trap the dirt from entering the tent. The biggest problem is that the rain fly doesnt cover the mesh covering, so heavy rain will get in. I covered a majority of our items.
It did however, keep dirt and debris out.
Overall, I would highly recommend this tent for those seeking a relaxed and enjoyable tent if its going to be set up for a couple of days.
Loved this tent!! It did great in a storm. The awnings over the windows are fantastic for sun AND rain. We could leave the front door flap open and all the windows open during a heavy storm while my Mother in law was stuffy and too warm all zipped up in an Ozark tent.
Good room for 2 adults, maybe 4 total squeezing a bit, but i dont see fitting 8 in this tent unless people sleep on top of each other. Other than that good quality and, easy to set up.
Buy this tent! First, I have to say that this was our very first tent and what an amazing purchase. We had so many complements from our friends. What I love about it is the front screened in area where you can remove you shoes before entering the tent. Its great if you have kids who want to play in the tent but you want to keep out because they make a mess. Its also spacious and tall. Im 56 and I could stand up all the way without it toching my head. Second, we had a major thunderstorm one night in our camping trip and it held up perfect. I felt so safe in this tent even though it rained really hard and there was even some rushing water underneath us. Highly recommend this product.
We have had this tent for three summers now and like another three star person have wanted to love this tent but have had too many problems. We originally got this tent for the net area and the 6 person size. I was wanting a all-around tent that could go to a lake and boat with high wind or that could go to the high mountains and handle heavy rain. I have loved the rain capabilitys, but the wind not so much at the lake. We have had this tent at yellow stone where it rain hard every night for 4 days and we never got wet. On the shore of a lake with high wind it didnt do as good. We have now had to tent one being a replacement of the first tent that was riddled with one problem after another. I was done with this tent on that one run but the replacement was great. They wanted picture and for use to write the replace number with a permanent marker on the tent. When all that was done they sent use a new tent without asking for the old one back. Now I will talk about the two tents.
First Tent
1. Problems on the first set up in the back yard two of the 4 pole/stake tabs came off do to poor stitching.
2. Went on first trip to goblin valley and lost another tab and saw ware on the pole sleeves where they ruble on the top cross section making holes that the poles come out of. Now I know why other tents have a gap in this cross section.(By the way I liked having a fool sleeve for the poles but now wish it was the other way.)
3. When through the return process and got a new tent hoping it was a lemon.
4. Fixed the tabs and use it as our primary tent and left the new one in the box for secondary. This lasted for one trip when more tabs came off and the seam on the bottom tarp started to separate.
5. Fixed the tabs again but didnt get to gluing the seam when are bother needed a tent to go to the lake so we took the new tent too.
6. High wind broke the pole and tore through the rain fly and my bothers things got soaked by the rain when we had to drop the tent to prevent more damage.
Second Tent
1. Not a lemon and has make me say this tent is three stars and not -3 stars.
2. The cross pole section is the same as the first tent so that is not going away.
3. This tent is not good in high wind, since this tent was in the same high wind as the first tent but lucky enough to drop it poles before in tore the rain fly.I just hade to have wet cloth and not a bad tent. It did fracture a pole but I now have a scrap tent to fix it.
4. Fixed the pole and it has now been one year since that wind and I have found another fracture pole that I can figure out why.
I have learn to put this tent behind something at the lake and out of the wind as much as I can and that has helped, but I am on the lookout for another tent with better poles but the same layout. One that has both great rain and high wind. I have been to many lakes and there is no trees for shelter form the wind and I have seen bigger tents do better. When go to the mountains this tent is awesome in the rain and the wind cant get strong. We just came in to many places with high wind or even the potential of high wind. In the end love the layout but not a forever tent for use.
The tent is completely dry after a thunderstorm night. Theres a small hole (1 dia.) at the corner of the tent when I set it up, not sure because of the stretching or it was there already, but I fill in the hole with tissue, not big problem. Overall satisfied.

Great Tent and cheap... Water in the front room not ideal
