I have had this bed for a while now and someone sat on the corner and broke the particle board that the mattress rests on, this has been quite the inconvenience for me but at least it can be fixed with a simple sheet of plywood. The drawers have not given me any issues though they can be bit pointy, I would recommend sanding down the sharp edges a tad. This bed could REALLY use a headboard. I have a bit of an unstandard set up I have to stuff a lot of pillows between this and the edge or my pillows will just fall right off, a simple headboard could remmedy this.
Good but needs improvement.
This was a nightmare to put together, with instructions that were worse than s illustrations.
Pros:
/ Sturdy once put together
/ finish is a nice touch, and they provide a touch up marker which works perfectly
/ Three drawers for storage, which is very helpful
Cons
/ Is a bit longer than the mattress we have, which I think is actually shorter than normal. The extra room at ends is awkward and creates a sharp edge when trying to get off. Highly recommend measuring twice so you only have to order once.
/ Drawers system uses plastic rails, rather than . I see them getting stuck or hard to open in the future
/ Some items werent pre/drilled and you cant use an electric screwdriver, meaning its hard to put together.
Great extra storage. Cool color that matched the denim curtains nicely. A little work to put together, but very sturdy. My Husband can lay down in it with our 5 yo and read him stories. Very pleasedthinking about getting a bigger one with a memory foam for us. Super comfortable. (get at least 10 inches to the depth of a memory foam for these platform beds) If you want anyone (weight wise) to be able to sleep in it.
Having had a good experience furnishing my sons room (hes now 4) with items, I bought this when his 2 year old sister was ready to transition to a big girl bed. I love the storage drawers, and I love the color of this item. Upon putting the bed together, I noticed that one of the support board was damaged and somehow there were no knobs included with my item. One visit to the company website and I was able to talk to a representative online (I love that feature, so much easier than talking on the phone with three little ones underfoot!) and my replacement board and knobs arrived only a few days later. This bed is sturdy, durable, and perfect for growing kids. Assembly was fairly easy, I think it took me an hour to an hour and a half by myself, but my sons bed was virtually the same assembly, so it might take a first/timera little longer. I will definitely order from again.
We received this bed promptly. It was easy to put together. The Antique Blue color is very adaptable to just about any color scheme you might like. The grey undertone in the blue creates that flexibility. We purchased a mattress only. You do not really need any box spring. There is a lot of storage area in the drawers below. I would not hesitate to recommend purchasing this bed.
FYI: We opened the cartons and let the wood air out for two days before we ever took it into the bedroom. I recommend that you do this as the wood has a strong odor. Within the two day period a lot of the odor had left, however , you will still notice it for a week or so. We also did not fill the drawers until a week had passed.
Overall this is a pretty good product. I ordered this for my father, who is older and has a little trouble in general sometimes. I had read the reviews about it taking time to put together, but I figured after I dropped it off with my father (un/put/together) hed just call if he was having problems. He was very frustrated by the time he did call. Very Frustrated. He ended up coming over and asking for a bunch of screws and a drill. Thats what I gave him and he called later saying it was together and very sturdy. It looks great, beautiful color, but dont leave someone who gets frustrated alone with it. If my fathers experience is any example you may end up drilling it and screwing it together into sturdy, beautiful, Frankenfurniture.
I bought this headboard with the captains bed for myself. It was a choice I made based on the size of my bedroom. I found the directions were ok. The print was a little small and there werent any written directions, just pictures. I did find there was one error with one of the end pieces to the bed itself and had to pull out some of the pins and reverse their order from the directions. (When pulling out the aluminum pins, be careful, you can accidentally pull the particle board apart. I used a pair of needle/nosed pliers and wiggled them gently out.) I didnt like being without my box spring and with the box spring in there the shelves in the headboard were too low. So I jacked up the headboard by 7 inches and have blocks of wood under it for support. I took one of the knobs to my local paint store and they were able to match the paint color so I was able to paint the block (the one that shows) and I am also going to paint the edge of the particle board along the top of the headboard. Overall, it took me about 8 hours to do everything. I did 90 of this myself with only a little help adjusting its position after I got it put together. My biggest suggestion would be that if you end up doing this by yourself, to make sure you are putting it together where it will used. Its a bit on the heavy side with the headboard attached.
Much like xeeshticka who wrote the review i based my purchase off, I am an under 20 college student who was looking for something cute. My tiny nyc city apartment cant handle too much furniture so i thought having a blue bed would sort of make up for the otherwise lack of furniture. My fedex man is a sweetheart so he delivered the extremely heavy box into my kitchen. i started building it, all by myself, in the evening around 7 and was done by 10:00. The bed does have some pretty sharp corners so I dont know how well this would do for an extremely young childanyway, the actual building wasnt tough. the predrilled holes matched up for the most part. after i was done setting the bed up, i put the box spring on it. there is approximately a 2 inch gap between the box spring and the bed frame. the box spring is unnecessary for this frame. drawers slide in and out with ease. you get what you paid for!
My son has had this bed for over a year now. He is 6.5 now and got the bed shortly before his 5th birthday. My hubs assembled it by himself in about 4 hours (with distractions) with simple every day tools. I was really impressed with how easily the drawers were to slide in and out, and how sturdy they were!!! My son jumps on this bed (what little boy doesnt like to do that), and isnt always so careful about sliding the drawers in carefully, but it hasnt taken any damage!!! He is a rough and tumble little boy and I am so happy that this bed has stood the test of time and tumbling this bed takes!!!
We loved it so much that we now have the captains bed, and the matching headboard and bedside table to match. I love the blue which is a nice washnot a paintof color on the wood. It is pressed partical board, but seriously looks like real wood and is sturdy like real wood unless you look inside the drawers!!!
We use just a mattress on this bed, because the lipwhere the mattress goes isnt really tall enough to keep a box springs and mattress on. I could see with a child especially the top mattress would constantly be pushed off the bed. The boards under the mattress are pretty strong and I have no worries of my son bouncing on the bed some or myself or hubs sitting on it! I think if a larger person were to want to use the bed, I would add an inexpensive buddy board to it. But with our 6 year old it isnt necessary.

Great bed!!
This bed is awesome. Took some time to put together, but that was expected ahead of time. Looks great fits perfectly into my sons bedroom. Love it!!
