Obviously, this isn't the greatest bed of all time, but as for XL twins, it's up there. The assembly took a while, but the parts are made well and everything is there for you, which is more than I can say for most build it yourself furniture. My very tall son sleeps in it and loves it so that is all that matters. I would recommend.
This was a pain to build. The directions were sometimes easy to follow, sometimes not. My son and I took about 4.5 hours to complete the project, we had all the correct tools including a drill for faster screwing. But it was worth it. The end result is a great bed. Smooth operating drawers, sturdy feel under the mattress, not too noisy during extracurricular activities.
I had to knock off a star because there are several long pieces of wood that stretch across the frame to create the platform for the mattress, and one of mine was completely rotted out in the package. You can see where someone in the factory tried to cover the rot or maybe save the wood by painting over it but it was clearly beyond saving. This was really the only manufacturer defect I found. Surprisingly, almost every predrilled hole actually lined up, which was a welcome relief.
I bought this for my daughter and its a great bed for the price. My only complaint was the poor instructions and the fact that none of the pieces were marked. This is important considering that right and left sides make a difference. I took this bed came apart three times getting the pieces and parts correct. The drawers were the easiest to put together. All in all, I came up with new swear words and my daughter got a bed she loves.
Bought a new king size mattress and needed a new bed frame with drawer storage. This one appeared to fit the needs but after assembly, it isnt perfect.
There are 6 drawers but if you have nightstands next to your bed, two drawers will not open. Like others have said, the drawers may not close flush. The frame itself may not be square.
The main issue with the bed are the wood slates for the mattress. They are not perfectly flat and make a rattling noise when entering or exiting the bed. To fix this, I screwed down every slat to the the metal brackets. Also, the wood isnt perfectly smooth and will leave splinters in your mattress. I ended up laying a layer of cardboard over the wood to prevent this.
Overall, the price is good for this bed. Its not perfect and needs some mods to make it useable.
It is a pain to assemble alone, don't get me wrong ... but for me it's just adult Lego. It was frustrating and all, one of the drawers refuses to be flush against the frame but hey so far so good. Other than being a pain to assemble I like it. I've only had it for 3 weeks so we'll see how it holds up but so far so good
The bed is functioning as advertised and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that a couple of pieces of hardware were missing and I wasn't a handyman with tools we would have been sleeping on the couch because the bed couldn't be put together without the missing pieces. The drawer bottoms are adequate but flimsy. Socks and underwear and shirts. Heavy jeans would eventually be a problem.
My recommendations for a perfect product:
Charge $40 or $50 more and:
include extra hardware
Rework the drawers to accept 3/8 plywood bottoms
I know the weight would go up but I would've rather paid more and got the extra hardware and sturdy drawer bottoms. QA needs to really be able to catch missing hardware. They send the exact amount. THere were no extra pieces of hardware leftover - so if they miss any you are out of luck. THe problem is that most folks will have removed their old bed in order to have enough room to put this together so there is no waiting for a phonce call to China to get the extra parts.

A couple of missing or broken drawer parts.
Good bed - if all the parts arrive!
