Assembly took about 12 hours including 2 trips to home depot after I lost a screw and then some washers. They really cant give you *any* extra washers??! Is it too costly for them?
And, as another reviewer stated, snapping these little plastic tabs into I think 20 slots is hugely difficult. Many of the plastic pieces simply do not fit and we had to leave them out and the bed slats loose.
This isnt the best loft bed in the world, but it is a loft bed that provides more space and room for smaller bedrooms or rooms that need it. I would suggest getting some sort of padding to put on the ladder parts of the loft because those metal bars can sure hurt your feet when climbing in and out of bed. The nice part about this product is that it provides ALL the space underneath loft, instead of having a desk that can get in the way if you just want to store things or put some sort of furniture underneath. Overall this product is good, but not the best.
The bed shipped quickly. The hardest part was there was a leg missing and no directions included. Once it was together, my daughter loved it though. Nice sturdy construction.
To be perfectly fair, Ive assembled worse products than this. No wait.I havent. This was the most annoying DIY furniture item Ive ever built.
The items are packaged flat, surrounded by thin styrofoam, and in a thin box. The box will be largely destroyed, the foam ends up disintegrated, but at least the parts seem to have made it without bending or denting. I did some of that with a hammer in frustration later though.
There was a great effort to break this up into as many little parts as possible to make the box small. That means youll be doing a lot of fine assembly. The instructions are terrible. I ended up looking at the part numbers (each piece has a number sticker on it) for general reference, then laid everything out until I could figure out by eye which pieces were oriented in which manner.
Once I had figured out the two main end assemblies, the rest starts to go together and you feel like youre making good progress. Then you get to the mattress support rails. There are around 30 or so of them, they slip into a groove on either end into the sides of the frame, and then you have to drive a little plastic piece into the slot over the rail and that locks it in place. Except some of the rails are a little out of round at the end and some of the plugs are too big to fit. I ended up using a pair of offset pliers to force the tabs in after having several shoot across the room and one slip inside the rail. By the way, you cannot get the tabs out of the side rail if you drop one in. So ours will have a little rattle but there were a few extras. Which is good, because youll need them! I broke at least 5/6. Between the pliers and a very small hammer, I was eventually able to install all of the support rails. This portion took me longer than the rest of the assembly.
Once put together, the item has a little end to end jiggle, but its pretty strong. The ladder steps are going to need some foam noodles slipped over them as theyre thin and really hard on the feet.
Only other observations I can make are that in a standard ceilinged room youre going to have just a couple of feet between the top of the mattress and the ceiling. Okay for now with my 7 year old but when hes 12 or 13 I might have to put a pad on the ceiling over his head! Its also completely unlikely that youll be able to remove this bed from the room you build it in without some disassembly. Sadly, to do any kind of significant breakdown, youll have to remove all of those plastic lock tabs and all of the rails and then put them back in. Im pretty sure that would not be possible since youd break most or all of the tabs and there arent enough spares to do a rebuild.
Nice to have more space in his room now though. I bought an intex inflatable sofa that fits right underneath and can be tossed on top to make more room. The bedframe doesnt give a ton of headroom underneath.fine for kids but at close to 6 tall the bottom of the frame is about at chest height for me. You might sneak a small desk under or you could fill it with a big dresser.
We assembled the bunk bed in about three hours. The instructions are only 8 short pages. Each page includes ONE photo but seven or eight different steps in instructions. We had to find an extra too to install the locking snaps for the bars. After 7 or 8 I lost feeling in my poor thumbs. Over all this is a VERY sturdy bunk bed but with 200 locking clips it should be! OK product, a pain to assemble and TERRIBLE instructions.
I wanted to get two beds for a small space and this accomplished that. Its not a bad buy for the price but I wished it was a bit more sturdy. When climbing up you feel like the bed MAY tip over and Im 115 lbs. I would recomend getting a twin over full for more base sturdiness.
The box arrived torn to smitherines. UPS guy was holding some of the rungs when he delivered it. Weak cardboard and poor packaging. I was missing 1 rung but figured it would take a month of sundays to get it so I put the bed together as is and the end with the missing rung is the end thats up against the wall.
Specs says it holds 250lbs. it bows when my 115lb granddaughter gets on it. Im not so impressed with this bed. I have to get a sheet of plywood to put under the mattress so that I feel that my granddaughter will be safe and secure when shes in the bed.
Someday ill remember You get what you pay for. In this case, 149 was cheap and so is the bed.
Would I recommend this bed or the company that makes it to a friend? HECK NO!
I just received this; directions look relatively clear but please be aware that EVERY SINGLE PIECE of this frame has to be put together separately. There are 14 small bolts and washers, 8 large bolts and washers, and 42 plastic tab locks that must be screwed or otherwise inserted into the frame. The mattress supports have to be laid out and each attached separately. Other reviews say that its easy, but it is definitely going to take some time.
the bed part and desk part comes in seperate boxes. do read the instruction for both fully before starting, or else youll have to undo some of the steps in order to install the desk.
the assembly is extensive but pretty stright forward, doable by one person under 6 hours if you know what youre doing. i would not recommend a woman to attempt it alone as it does require some heavy lifting. there are a lot of parts, and assembly is more difficult than a typical ikea piece. some parts youll have to muscle it a bit to make it fit.
the desk top surface is really shallow. as you can see from the picture, its only about 16 inches deep. the desktop is also a bit low. if you install the keyboard tray you probably will have problem fitting your legs under the desk. i replaced my desktop board with a deeper desktop and eliminated the keyboard tray.
the bed is twin size. im 58 and its barely long enough for me. so if you are taller than me then this bed is a no go. its plenty wide. the metal latter bars hurt your feet as youre climb up and down without shoes. im going to wrap the bars in foam pads when i get a chance.
overall this loftbed + desk feels pretty sturdy and will probably last. it may rock and shake a lot due to the metal tube construction; its not like a typical peice of wood furniture. its about the best price for similar products. if you can live with the shortcomings, i would go for it.

Its all right.

Bad packaging, hard to assemble, good when youre done

Wasnt what I was looking for
I was looking for a futon bunk bed for kids and i almost bought this one thinking it was a futon on bottom.
