The IKEA Detolf is probably the most popular display cabinet in use today and after learning about it on an action figure collecting forum I decided I wanted a few of them considering the low price. Sadly the nearest store is in New Jersey which is about 300 miles away so I went looking for alternatives and I stumbled across the Curio Cabinet on .
It is almost an exact copy of a Detolf with a few exceptions.
>The top and bottom wood pieces are press board just like the Detolf, but the color is off. The dark cappuccino has a strange faux grain appearance but this is only noticeable from a very close distance.
>The metal supports that run vertically from the top and bottom wood pieces are thicker and without the cross bracing that is found on the Detolf. I find that this actually gives a cleaner look to the curio and I do not notice any issues with rigidity.
>All of the glass shelves rest on screws(with suction cups) mounted to the metal supports. Getting the screws in was tricky as each of the holes had been drilled slightly to the left or right of center.
>My biggest issue, and the reason I gave this curio three stars, is due to the terribly inaccurate cut-outs for the glass panels. The channels in the wood were not long enough to accept the two side panels and I had to resort to DIY mode. I tried everything from a drill to a screwdriver but ended up using my X-acto hobby knife to cut away about 1/8 of an inch at four different areas. Eventually the glass panels slid into place inside the grooves but this kind of thing should NEVER happen on such a basic design as this.
So is it worth it? Once assembled it does look nice and with the IKEA Dioder light kit it really is a wonderful place to show off your collectibles. If you have an IKEA within 30 miles go and grab two Detolfs for the price of this. If you live in the middle of nowhere like me and have no other options this is still a decent choice despite the ill-fitting panels. Just make sure you have another person to help you as it weighs around 80 pounds when finished and dont forget the hobby knife!
Yes, the instructions are a bit tough to follow (watch the different glass sizes for the back and the door), but this is a great case at a great price. I have both this one and the one that is about twice as tall. Both look great.
You will need another person to assemble this as the glass has to slide in the frames. But this is very sturdy and heavy. I used it to hold all my statues and busts. I love this piece and would buy it again
I liked the arrangement of the shelf and assembled it by myself. Should have had a helper. I put in the left glass panel and the back glass panel and then was assembling the right side. I set the glass down on the floor, and I swear, just touched it to the stone tile. It shattered into 1000s (I kid you not) of tiny pieces. Tempered glass can be fragile but that was ridiculous--bad tempering in my opinion. So, send it back? Ha. Imagine trying to repackage 75 pounds of glass and then haul it to UPS. I replaced that piece with plexiglass. Okay, unless you are a purist. The other thing is that it is top heavy. You need to attached it to the wall or weight the bottom because kids could turn it over. I did the latter. I suggest that you put a think rug under it as you build it to avoid any contact of the glass with a hard surface. Seems to be okay. Once this was all done, the curios and jewelry I have made look very nice in it.

It will work well for what I got it for.
It took some work to get it together, but it works well.
A good Detolf replacement, but make sure you have the necessary tools!

Janky
Praying it does not break! Shipping was hella fast.
Great for a smaller living room ‼️
Looks good in a corner. I purchased a light for the inside and it looks great!! That being said it was frustrating putting together!
This is awesome

Good
Just as title says, one drawback though. It isn’t fully sealed so dust still gets in. Other than that. It’s great
Five Stars
Easy to assembly. I loved it . Wish however the space between the glasses were wider.
Good shelf but fragile tempered glass
