The wood is Poplar, 1 or 1 1/8 thick and very pretty. Unfinished wood so you can paint or lacquer it if you choose. Easy to assemble with a screwgun, would be a little more difficult with just a phillips screwdriver. I recommend watching the instructional video on rather than depend on the instruction sheet. Very nice bedstead, highly recommend. It looks great, came separate days but was worth the wait!
What a nice bed! I thought Id write a review while the assembly process is fresh in my mind. I purchased directly from the company but they have no place for reviews, so Ill leave it here.
Ive put together countless furniture, and this is much more straightforward, not to mention the nice feeling of solid wood. The individual pieces are light enough to handle easily, but at the same time they are solid. The video shows that you could use a drill to put it all together, but honestly a hand-held screwdriver was more than sufficient for me. The attachment points are perfectly done, and it all goes together in an intuitive way.
Before assembly I took everything outside and stained it. It isnt really necessary to stain the bed slats as they arent visible after the mattress is in place, and these would be the pieces to use for any experimentation with stain colors. Poplar is a soft wood but it looks pretty good with the medium walnut Watco Danish oil I chose for it -- a very forgiving treatment thats quick to apply. A darker stain might appear more uniform, but its nice to see the grain of the wood. I lightly sanded the pieces first, by hand, though for the most part they were nicely finished.
The default version of this bed is high compared to my old one. If I had to purchase this over again, I would have chosen the optional lower legs. Also, this is obvious from the picture, but the mattress lies flat on the platform, with no risers to surround it, so a very deep mattress looks a little funny if you are switching from a bed that had vertical pieces surrounding the mattress. On the plus side, there is generous space below the bed for storage bins. Very happy overall with the purchase; it was a great value for the money. For the price, its great
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because its noisy - every time we move its loud. But its for my toddler and she doesnt care. I painted it white with non chemical paint.
The bed arrived well packaged in a long box. There were no damaged pieces. I took the pieces upstairs a few at a time and assembled it in the room where it was going to be used. The directions were just fine and all the parts were in the package. Im a 73 year old male and it took me a little over 1 hour to put it together on a very hot afternoon, stopping every once in a while to drink some water.
I strongly suggest having a electric drill/screwdriver, mallet and piece of wood and a larger Allen wrench. While the supplied allen wrench is OK, your hands will appreciate a larger one as shown. I used the mallet and piece of wood to tap the pieces together that have pegs. It made a more solid join. I like how the slats are separated between both sides of the platform. It makes the bed super solid. I did not stain or paint it at this time.
Ive slept on it for a bit over a week. So far no squeaks or wobbles, no matter what Ive done in it. [wry grin] All in all I think its a great bed and exceptional value.
Loved the look of this frame. The finish is so smooth and nothing about it looks cheap. Very sturdy and easy to put together but it just takes some time. Would definitely buy again. Looks gorgeous and easy to assemble.
I bought this as a base for my new sleep number bed. I am a 58 year old grandmother with arthritis, and it took me about 2 hours total to put this together by myself. Getting the woodscrews to go all the way in was a little hard, but I was able to manage it with some effort (note, if my drill had been charged, this wouldnt have been an issue).
The instructions were clear and concise, only had a little problem with the dowels not lining up with the holes, but got my son to help me push a little, and it worked. for the most part, it was very easy to put together.
My husband and I slept on it last night, and it seems to be very sturdy, no noise. I didnt stain or finish it, as I love the natural wood look.
I would definitely recommend this bed frame. Simple, unique and elegant
