Purchased this for a roommate situation sharing same room. We placed this bed over the king size bed. Works great. I would recommend not putting it together yourself. Although it is easy and easy to follow instructions it is awkward and more challenging for one person. Overall very happy. Used a memory foam 8 mattress. Works perfect. Sturdier than I expected
