Expected. My kids love this bed. I also like the design how the slats go up and down instead of laying flat. Makes the bed more sturdy and comfortable. However, I wouldnt recommend this for teenagers. My kids are 7 and younger. Very lightweight. I wouldnt trust it for older kids. Its not real wood. Very light material. Not sure what its called. it Does the trick. We are happy
