This desk was just what I was looking for, it fits in my room perfectly and was fairly simple to put together. I didnt attach the criss-cross poles that go in the back. I think theyre meant just for design but arent necessary for stability. The desk is very stable without them and you can switch the desk around to have the shelves on the left or the right. There was a small nick in the wood on the main slat but it did not bother me enough to want to return it, I was able to fill it in with a brown marker and it looks just fine.
