good bed with modification and patience

It is ok. 2 year update This bed has lasted 2 years just fine after having used additional hardware and glue during the initial assembly. We even put a much heavier king size saatva mattress on it. Were pretty careful about messing up the surface of the bedside drawers, but we do put drinks and stuff on them and the finish has not been damaged yet. The only issue I have encountered during this time is that the bolt heads between the drawers have caused damage the back corners of the drawer faces from repeatedly being closed on them. Not really a big deal. Would have bought it again if I needed another. previous review Agree with previous reviewer that with modification the bed is okay. We were going to buy a 2500 dollar bed from crate and barrel and decided the difference could be better spent. I preemtively bought a bunch of screws and right angle brackets from home depot to reinforce the structure and had everything ready before the bed arrived. I also purchased some heavy duty adhesive felt to protect the wood floors under the bed. UPS carried the five 50/70+ lb boxes (bed plus headboard/nightstands) up to the house in the pouring rain. Mostly came in perfect condition Most of this bed is particle board and veneer, so you have to be pretty careful with it or itll scrape the finish. I stepped on one of the boards and dented it! One slat was missing from my order, and this bed along with the headboard have similar issues with the styrofoam packaging sticking to the finish and damaging it. Its like the foam is melted to the veneer. Removing it damages the finish. I managed to put the entire bed together before noticing the missing slat and realizing I couldnt fix the veneer. Notified and they were going to send a whole new bed and let me pick out the pieces I wanted, then send it back! I opted for a partial refund which I thought was fair. I think I spent six hours putting the bed together, gluing, reinforcing, and cutting and placing felt on the bottom to keep it from damaging the floors. Another reviewer said the bed is too heavy to move? I disagree our mattress is heavier than the bed. We tried using thin box springs at first but the mattress was too high so we removed them. The bed height (you sit at) with our 13.5 inch mattress is about 26 inches. The drawers feel cheap and were were going to use them as a dresser but I dont think theyll stand up to the use, so may just store extra bedding in them. Anyway, Id recommend if you enjoy building these things and taking your time to make them go together right. One last note on making the bed square. The instructions show you how to fix drawers not fitting correctly by making the bed more square by pushing on it after its already put together. Well I put right angle metal supports on each board/board right angle connection, so my bed is square. But one of the drawers in the corner still had a gap on one side. I moved the drawer to a different spot and it fit fine with no gaps. Im not sure if I got lucky but none of the drawers had gaps after this.
