It smells! Not sure how this is non/toxic, low VOC.

I researched A LOT before I bought this bed. I was drawn to the bunk bed closer to the floor and the solid wood description. First, it was really hard to put together! It took me over four hours. The small side slats kept falling out and it took quite a bit of puzzle work to get everything lined up and tightened. Youd think the side pieces would have come preassembled given that you had to perfectly line up each slat to the crossbeams. And as soon as you got a couple going the rest would fall out. My biggest issue is it smells! While putting it together, I had to open the window and and bring in a air purifier. My kids are not sleeping in it for a few nights! Luckily I saved their old beds before I decide Im keeping this one. For a bed that claims low VOC and solid New Zealand wood (another selling point), Im gravely concerned by the reviews that say this has been swapped out with plywood!! I found this bed on a blog that recommended it as a non/toxic option. I have a kid on the autism spectrum whos refusing to sleep in her room, so Ive been replacing all our household furniture with the most non toxic stuff I can afford. Im super disappointed to think I spent an entire day building this thing, placing my kids green mattresses on it, and hoping that the smell dissipates in the next few days. And apparently I need to contact the manufacturer now to make sure its not plywood but the solid pine that was described? Ugh. The one thing Im most upset about is how many times people I know are ordering from and the thing that is send is an inferior, knock off version that wasnt properly advertised. From sunglasses to Apple charging cords and now this.I feel like I cant trust the description to reflect the product sent anymore.
