These umbrellas seem to have a short life span in general; I purchased this one towards the end of summer, and so far its held up. Will see if it prevails through next season. Recommend buying ANY outdoor umbrella in a light shade of material, especially in areas exposed to FULL sun. If youre purchasing an umbrella to match dark-colored cushions, you will be disappointed regardless of what type of material the umbrella is comprised from; they ALL fade....terribly. Better to choose a beige or light yellow color, if youre looking for a solid-color umbrella that will work uniformly with whatever color cushions make up your patio set. If you want floral and can find it on (I never have found floral umbrellas on ), the same rule applies. Recommend nylon over canvas as well, AND a crank style over the rope pulley system. It is my experience that cotton-based materials degrade quickly when outdoors even over just a few months of warm weather.
