    Little disappointed

Im no stranger to these build it yourself furniture concepts. As a matter of fact I have several of these new style furniture pieces downstairs. That is to say I have experience with putting these together. This unit specifically is a little disappointing. Firstly, I saw from other reviews that the drawer wood design was a slightly different color than the faux wood shelves and was hoping perhaps Id get lucky with mine. Its similar enough but the drawers have a more orange tone to them vs the shelving. Luckily my unit was more for function than appearances, as well as being in a colorfully lit area that helps hide the color discrepancy. Secondly, others have mentioned the difficulty with pulling the two single drawers out. While I dont seem to have that issue, my issue lies with the height difference of the track vs the support for these drawers. The sides of the unit have a built in drawer track, while the middle is unsupported beyond the slightly lower support. What this results in is uneven drawers that tip slightly toward the center. Im honestly considering using magnets to just hold the two drawers together and use them as 1 single drawer with a divider. Thirdly, the craftsmanship of this is pretty shoddy. As mentioned I have personal experience assembling these kinds of units. I know not to fully tighten any screw until you have them all lined up and partially in for each connecting piece. This didnt stop one of the pieces from completely coming apart during assembly. While connecting the two side pieces (literally step one) using the bottom support, the nuts that were I guess just glue/sticked inside the bottom support pulled right out when screwing on the sides. So color me surprised when I get everything lined up, go to tighten the screws, and then the thing just collapses on me for what I thought was just an improperly threaded screw that turned out to be the innards of the bottom support just pulling right out. While frustrating, I just pushed the nuts back in, got the middle support bracket in, and helped keep the unit together once attaching the shelves. Still, for the cost you shouldnt have this falling apart on step 1. All in all, its an ok unit. Its being used as additional office storage after building my own computer desk that did away with the big, chunky computer desk drawers for a more minimalist look. So in that regard it serves its purpose, and is tucked away in a location thats not viewable unless sitting at my desk. This is really easy to assemble and pretty sturdy.
