My husband and I are plus sized so when we first got this bed (in 2008) we reinforced it with a few extra slats. Also, because we both like firm beds, we added some plywood boards on top of the slates. We do not use a box spring, we just have our mattress sitting on the boards. This didnt take us very long to do and was well worth it. This bed is so solid with just our minor adjustments. We never hear a creak or a crack. The bed still looks brand new and still matches our ever changing decor. Like it a lot
