Nicely Featured Coffee Table at a Good Price, but with Low/Budget Components

The box is heavy, so its better with a two/man lift. Assembly is best done in the place where the table is going to rest, but youll have to contend with packaging debris, especially bits of white Styrofoam. You can build this out front or in the garage, but youll need two adults to carry it to its final location, and note that carrying this assembled table is a bit awkward, as the top will want to extend on you. It comes almost fully assembled, but not quite. Total assembly time for us was about 20 minutes, with the provided instructions, which were helpful and clear. You need a regular screwdriver, and one Philips head; they do not provide any tools. DO NOT lay out 60 for assembly. The hardware is well labeled, and its easy to lay the pieces out and get this together. You also get a touch/up marker, which doesnt really match the color of this table. The table looks great in the online product images, but the price made it clear that it would not be solid wood. And I was right. Its particle board, pretty cheap particular board (the term shredded Chinese newspapers came to mind) and the veneer (Im being kind here) is quite thin. Pay attention to the corners and edges, as it seems the veneer may want to come up if you catch a corner wrong. I do like the way this item looks, the simulated rough/cut of the veneer. Its a shame its not solid, but I understand it would make the item a lot heavier, and it would cost a lot more. As for the tabletop extension, we found it to work smoothly and properly. Its a little awkward to open/lift with just one hand; given the separation between the hinges/springs, its best if you use two hands for a smooth and even extension. The top does not physically lock in place, so be careful what you put on it when its up so that it doesnt crash down. As an ad hock laptop desk, it works particularly well. Documentation: You get the use and care guide, which provides a support email address. Not bad. Price: At the time of this review, this item is approximately 105. Thats a pretty good price for what is essentially a full/size coffee table, and which offers sectioned storage and a lift top. So far, so good. But, as noted her and in other reviews, the quality of the components of this table really isnt that great. If you understand that and are okay with it, this is a fair price for this item. Bottom Line: This is a clever table, good size and with some nice functionality. It looks good, too. It has a modest price, but you just have to understand that these features coupled with this price means that some other aspect(s) of the item are not necessarily top/notch.
