There were some marks on the bed before putting together. Came in 2 boxes. It is a very sturdy bed. I am happy with it and so are my daughters. Just wish for the bottom bunk there was some kind of cover to hide the boards from the top bunk. Worried of the little one getting splitters. It does hold a a standard twin mattress on top and bottom. I am very happy that I purchased this.
