You WILL need something flat on the bottom, otherwise its a great bed frame.
I put it together myself, no tools, just stomped the pieces into place lol. Its not noisy for me, which I read in a lot of other reviews so Im glad that wasnt an issue.
Initially I got a plank of plywood cut at Home Depot and used that as a flat base which worked perfectly fine, but then I decided I wanted my bed raised a little more so I added a box spring and everythings holding up great! Still quiet and very sturdy.
