I didnt find it difficult to build and it feels sturdy. I wouldnt put a heavy person on top but for my 10 year old it works. I could imagine my husband and I would be able to sleep on the bottom just fine (300 lbs total). But we did buy it for children.
If you need it for adults I would recommend putting a couple of 2x4 legs in the middle for additional support and then the weight limit would not be an issue.
