We got this bed as a Christmas present for our 4 year old son and he absolutely loves it. He wants to be in it 24/7 and has transferred all of his toys up there... It looks great and I dont think it could be any sturdier. Not sure why you would pay more for another bunk bed. I didnt experience any issues with cracking wood while building. Just made sure not to use power tools. It did take about 3 hours to assemble but I did it by myself then had someone help stack it at the end. Overall seems like a bed that will last the remainder of his childhood!
