After reading the reviews I was a little nervous about set up as so many people commented on the number of pieces. My fears were unfounded as everything was labeled well and the instructions were clear. For being two beds, I didnt think there were many pieces at all! I do not have the beds set up into a bunk yet as my oldest is only 3, but it took about 45 min to take everything out of the box, organize, and put two beds together (didnt put on the top railing or put the ladder together as we will do that when were ready to stack into a bunk). There is a strong smell which was a mixture of wood and varnish. I had to open the windows and turn on the fan. The smell was pretty much gone in a day of airing out the room. The beds feel very sturdy and I am comfortable laying on the bed with my boys.
