It is possible to put this thing together without power tools and alone. It'll take about 4 hours because it's a pain, but it is possible! FYI, some of the pre-drilled holes don't match up exactly. It seems sturdy. I climbed up on the top bunk and I felt safe, but I don't think it could withstand a lot of jumping around. My kids are kind of rambunctious so we will have to wait and see how long it lasts.
The main reason why I purchased this bunk bed is because of the celling fan in my boys room. It is really short, so I don't have to worry about a kid losing their head.
