This bed is amazing! I wish I had bought it sooner! I have three little girls in one small room, previous to this triple bunkbed I was using a typical bunkbed with a pull out trundle. Well... the trundle never was pushed back under the bed and the room was always a mess. My daughter on the lower bunk constantly stepped on my daughter sleeping in the trundle. It was a nightmare being woken up every morning to crying and angry fights. After one particular rough morning I just went ahead and bought this bed.
It took about 3 weeks for it to arrive and when it finally did it came in two boxes. The instructions for the triple bunk bed are in the second smaller box and some of the parts need to mix and match between the boxes so make sure youre grabbing the right parts during assembly. I know I had to back track a few times from assuming I had the right part instead of verifying I did.
It took 3 hours for me to assemble the bed with the help of a moody teenager. Pro tip: use an Allen wrench drill bit on an electric drill. It makes everything go so much faster!
Once the bed is up it is very sturdy. I was afraid it would shake or wobble but it doesnt. Its as solid as the $1400 bunkbed it replaced.
Another concern I had was actual head room between the bunks but there is plenty for young children. My kids in this bed are 7, 5 and 3 and each has decent head room.
Because I did not see other reviews mention this I want to say it! I have 8 foot ceilings and this bed fits beautifully in the bedroom. It seems to be designed for typical ceiling Heights. I was afraid the top bunk would be too close to the roof but the top bunk has just as much head room as the lower bunks. Its perfect and my OCD loves that its all spaced so evenly.
Now lets talk mattresses: a standard twin mattress will not work in this bunkbed. It will be too tall and will end up being at the top of the railing making the railings useless. I ended up purchasing two bunkbed mattresses from IKEA. These measure 4 high.
I had to use the Bunkie boards from my previous bunkbed because of the way the supports are for this triple bunkbed. (See second picture). These boards are about 3 tall and on their ends which I understand is for strength (wood ends are stronger than the flat side) but they arent very wide so they are very noticeable when laying on a thinner mattress. The bunkie boards solve this problem but do not come with the triple bunk FYI.
All in all I am very satisfied with this triple bunkbed and would recommend it to anyone with 3 kids in one room.
