Pretty much what you expect. Its a futon, you can sit on it, it folds back into a hard but usable mattress. The buttons are not an issue for comfort because the couch is nowhere near soft enough for you to be able to touch them lying down on it. If youre concerned about comfort just buy a memory foam pad and lay it on top. It was relatively easy to put together alone but would recommend a second person to help lift/flip/move it around as you put things together.
