This chair is massive, heavy, and an exceptionally sturdy piece of furniture built to last. I LOVE IT! If you like dainty, understated furniture then this is probably not for you.
(NOTE about delivery: NSD delivered within the appointment time/frame and did a wonderful job checking to be sure everything was shipshape before he left. Sadly, in our excitement, we forgot to give him a service gratuity and I feel terrible about that. We only paid for curbside drop/off but he stayed longer. I contacted NSD to let them know the delivery man did an exceptional job!)
The chair came in two pieces with the hand screws taped in a baggie to the underside of the backrest piece. The backrest piece was manageable for one middle aged female of average strength and in good health. The bottom piece/ oh holy mother. That piece took two people and was a chore to get inside the . The top piece easily slid down onto the bottom piece with one person (again, of average strength and no mobility issues) although it did take me a couple of tries due to operator error.
Once it was all said and done, I was in heaven in this beast! I am 56 and wanted a chair where my feet did not hang off the leg rest at any point when reclined. This goes one better/ my feet dont even touch the floor when I slide all the way back in the chair. I feel like a little kid in grandpas favorite chair! Or a queen on her throne! I read comments about the chair being extremely stiff/firm. I didnt find that to be the case. Its extremely comfortable and the backrest cradles your head. I think the firmness is subjective so perhaps to many people it DOES feel very firm.
One thing I didnt see many comments about was the arm rest height. You will want a taller/than/average end table for this. The top of the arm rest is approximately 28 or close to it. A normal 24 end table for this is too low for my supreme comfort so I ordered a 28 table here on .
We have the beautiful walnut Dorado that looks like leather. However, this does not feel like leather and is a wonderful textured fabric with none of the sticky/slick feeling that economy/grade leather would have (at 452 it would definitely not have been high/end leather).
As a precaution, we have covered it with a large/oversized recliner T/cover that is water proof and has non/slip texturing on the back since I wasnt sure how slick the recliner would be. No worries/ a non/grip backing would have been just fine but the grips definitely help keep it in place. Search for H.VERSAILTEX 100 Waterproof Non/Slip Furniture Covers for Leather Recliner Covers for Large Recliner Seat Width Up to 30 Inch Washable Furniture Protector. It fits well with a little tucking in at the back of the armrests.
Leg rest lever feels a little short/narrow. Its the only thing I worry about at all. We got an extender and slid it down onto the handle quite a way for more stability. It still wiggles a little but it also makes moving the footrest up and down a lot easier (we arent aged or infirm so Im not sure about how this will work for people facing physical challenges).
Overall, this is a fabulous piece of furniture on day 1 and 2. Will update if things go sideways.
Massive chair for an average size person. LOVE IT
