They have the steampunk feel and looks great in a modern kitchen. The wood has a nice finish and I like the matte black of the legs. They came with no instructions, but were pretty self explanatory in constructing. Although I do feel like there is one piece that supposedly goes between the post and where it enters shaft. I'm not sure of its purpose (perhaps tightening nut, but doesn't seem to operate as one) but seems to do a good job stripping the paint off the base when I tighten the post all the way.
I read a review discussing how the swivel is just screwing and unscrewing the height of the seat. I didn't think much of it at the time before purchasing and now I understand what an annoyance that is. This stool adjusts is height by the post turning. That is also the swivel function. They should not be the same function because now when I swivel, I am also unintentionally adjusting the height of the stool. There is also a very noticeable wobble in the seat because the post is not tight enough in the shaft (has nothing to do with the base and how it sits on the floor).
I'm not going to return it because it's a pain in the arse and I've already assembled everything. But if I had a time machine, I would not have purchased. It did come with moleskin patches for the feet. So that was considerate.
looks nice but would not purchase again
