My experiences with unassembled furniture have most often led to disappointment. Generally, theyre flimsy, cheap material, not machined properly, and have lackluster finishes.
This piece, however, was quite different. No cheap pressboard parts, all solid wood, the parts fit together precisely, and the finish is quite nice, despite the overpowering smell. It must have been varnished just prior to shipping because it took a week for the potent smell to dissipate. Overall, very satisfied.
