Top of cabinet had disappointing scratches/dents that could have happened in shipping, better packaging could possibly have prevented the damage. I didnt contact the seller because I felt with the weight and packaging there was little to be done without further expense to myself and because my husband didnt say anything about it until he had already put it together. Seller requested I change my feedback since responsibility for damage could lie with either party. I removed my seller feedback.
Other than those initial disappointments the cabinet itself is sturdy and nice. My husband put it together and I didnt hear any excessive ARGHHHS. I asked him and he said that it was pretty easy and he didnt have any issues and usually things like this would frustrate him.
Color in the picture of the dark chocolate tone is correct.
I was going to purchase two to try to replace a large and tall outdated bookcase but this really is better designed for either smaller books or general knick-knack decor for my needs. The shelves are adjustable and have great depth. I was able to fit my hardback books only if I laid them on their sides or removed one of the adjustable shelves. The cabinet could also make a great DVD cabinet.
Im still on the fence about buying a second one just because it does not fit my intended use. I included pictures. I just put some of my hardbacks and picture frames in it to show scale. You can see on the shelf with the picture in front that there is plenty of room for the book and another item and you can see that a paperback will stand upright. I just have wayyy too many books that I want to keep. So Im sure everyones mileage will vary depending on their needs too.
