    Awesome design, untrustworthy manufacturing

We love to camp. As a working professional, I still take my family camping over 50 days of the year. We go on lengthy road trips, living in our tent the whole time. When we look for a tent, we look for our second home. I spent hours and hours researching our options within our budget. This tent appeared to be the best value. The reviews about its ability to handle rain was the real seller for me. I didnt expect the deficit in quality I found elsewhere. I received this tent brand new last weekend. I set it up in my yard to air out before we begin our first summer adventure. It looked awesome. We love the porch, and even though it was a hot day, this tent had excellent ventilation even with the rain fly on tight. It weather rain during the night without a drop of moisture on the inside. Perfect. We were getting very excited about our nomadic home. Then I took it down. And a the rain fly support pole broke. On the FIRST USE. Unacceptable. I buy tents, and make them last 8 years. I dont care what part of the tent it is. I dont care if its a tent or not. A product should NEVER break on the first use. used to be a representation of camping quality. REI has taken over, but I didnt pay attention. I stuck with what I trusted. We still love the rest of the tent. But, how can I sleep comfortably in a windstorm now? I have a family with me. How do I know another pole, or cord, or support structure isnt going to break down on the next several hundred uses? Im going to feel like Im gambling with my families safety. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY My first impressions of this tent? A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, working alone, who will be defeated by its enemies because of its lack of real lasting power. I could be wrong. I hope Im wrong. But, I no longer trust that truly represents high-quality camping gear. is shipping me free tent pole repair kits. I requested several, anticipating a recurring issue with these tent pole cords. If you buy this tent, it really is an awesome design and good for rain, but go ahead and buy a handful of tent cord repair kits to go with it. You will need them.
