I would not go so far as to call this a gun safe. It is a steel gun cabinet. The locking mechanism is untrustworthy and the fingerprint reader has stopped recognizing my fingerprint even though I have my finger and my thumb saved multiple times at multiple different angles. I would not trust this lock to function properly in an emergency situation which was the whole reason I bought the small cabinet to be by my bed. Good but not what I expected
