Pretty, solid wood bed, but its flimsy and cant suport a quality full mattress teen/adult
Bought this bunk bed primarly for my 11/year old , but shes sharing it with an older sister. Overall, we love the look and the solid wood, as well as the underbed storage. The bed was very easy to put together, too.
Our overall issues, however, are the bed is flimsy and literally cannot support a quality mattress and a teen or adult. On top of that, the ladder cuts into the full/size mattress.
Issue 1 / flimsiness. With almost no effort or pressure I can make the bed frame shift and wobble with nobody in it and with all bolts firmly tightened. Structurally, its just not that solid.
Issue 2 / support. Please see the image with the planks above. The circled plank is an example of what comes with the bed / a few thin, widely dispersed planks that are supposed to support a full/size mattress. One significant issue with this, structurally, is theres no center rail to provide stability or support. There are only two fairly flimsy legs that with one screw each that are offset from center to allow for room for the underbed storage. Theres no other support. When I put the full size mattress on, by itself, I could see bowing. As a structure test, I/a 200 man/laid on the mattress and we could see it bow significantly. Granted, Im not sleeping in it, but its obviously not very strong. I shopped around for a bunky board, but ended up buying extra 1X4 wood planks to provide support. After doing so, I could lay on the mattress without it noticeably bowing unlesss I actually moved around.
Issue 3 / not enough room for the mattress. Please see the image of the mattress being compressed by the ladder. This is a Zinus Cloud Memory Foam 12 Inch Mattress we bought specifically for this bed. Yes, its thick, but I read a review from another customer who said they had a 9 mattress fit with no issues. As you can see, even 9 wouldnt fit very well, especially with bedding. Also, the mattress hadnt even fully reached its size because it was brand new.
All/in/all, well probably live with it because it meets a need and its too much of a pain to disassemble and ship back, but I honestly wouldnt recommend it. I looked at another bed that looks almost identical from and it clearly shows a center beam with 3 legs for less money than I paid for this. Even crier, theres another bed listed from THIS SAME COMPANY (Designs) using the exact same images EXCEPT it shows a center beam and 3 legs, whereas the images for the bed I bought dont show a center beam and only has 2 legs. The difference, even though theyre the same bed from the same company. I paid 329.99 49 shipping, whereas the bed with the center rail and 3 legs costs 399 and has free shipping. They are sold by different merchants, however.
Honestly, were so disappointed, overall.
