Easy to Assemble, Sturdy, and the Lift-Top Works Well
As with other pressed-wood furniture we have owned, this one came out of the box with some dings and more than a little dust. Fortunately, the dings were pretty much hidden after assembly, and we were prepared to wipe all the surfaces down with a dust rag during assembly. Vacuuming the floor after assembly is a must.
Assembly was generally pretty easy, requiring about a half an hour, and possibly a bit less time than that. We took great care to avoid stripping screws, which is a problem we have had in the past with assembled furniture. Sometimes even snug either strips a screw or feels as though stripping is close. There are a couple of annoying places that need assembly because those spaces are tight. Having a right-angle ratcheting wrench that has an array of inserts was useful during assembly, though not required. Fortunately, the lift-top assembly was already put together, so most of the assembly is matching parts and tightening screws.
Once assembled, this coffee table is sturdy with lots of storage. There is some storage under the lift top, and more storage on the open lower shelf. The lift-top locks into position to reduce the chance that the top will collapse back onto the table, which is handy when using the lift-top for a computer or for hobbies.
Note also that this table is relatively heavy. We assembled the table in an area where we thought we would use it, but if we need the table elsewhere, it will take two of us to lift and move the table.
Our assessment of value is average to slightly above average. While the coffee table is more expensive than many other coffee tables, the lift top brings a lot of value to this coffee table, raising the value significantly in our mind. Further, we like the storage under the lift top, which is large enough to be useful, and the storage shelf provides significant storage for books, computer accessories, etc.
Our overall assessment is five stars. We could have wished that the screws were sturdier and hardened to reduce the risk of stripping the screws when tightening screws, but we managed to assemble the table without stripping anything, this time. On the other hand, assembly was reasonably easy, and everything went together well. We love the lift top and the hidden storage. The lower shelf is a great place for books, files, computer accessories, etc. For functionality, this table appears to be a winner.
Enjoy!
